Artist Statement

Making my art comes from a place deep within myself and is inherently tangled up with the fabric of my life and identity. During hard times in my life, my art has been a lifeline; creating a way to cope with the things I have carried. In easier times, my art has been a method of sharing not only my own story but also making new stories.

My work itself frequently focuses on themes of change and growth, questions the nature of self, identity, and the relationships we have, and utilizes the natural world and mythological imagery. Often, the art I make is a reflection of me--the things I've experienced, the people I care about, and what I think and feel.  Because of that, my work also tends to be introspective and, in certain instances, autobiographical.

I consider myself a mixed-media artist because I work to incorporate more traditional mediums into and alongside digital mediums. I am endlessly fascinated by the creative possibilities our world holds, so I experiment freely in using and combining these different media across my entire body of work. My versatility as an artist is one of my greatest strengths; I am constantly challenging myself to learn and explore new ways to create. Throughout my studies and in my career, this has allowed me to develop an adaptable and imaginative practice.

My work is ultimately united through the use of gestural lines, a bright and vivid color palette, and an abundance of detail.  I leave my mark on everything I make.
